Acharya Prashant: What do you mean by destiny?
Listener: Blessed, that which is blessed or that which is decided, or pre-decided. I think it is from the law of karma.
AP: No Karma is pre-decided, so destiny obviously cannot be related to karma. That which pre-exists, pre-exists karma also, so karma cannot be the decider of the destiny. Obviously.
L: I heard of the three types of karma – Agami, Parabda, Sanchitta.
AP: All three have a background.
All three have a background, Agami, Parabda, Sanchitta, all three have a background. And all three have their respective fruits. When you say destiny is something that is preordained, then obviously it has to go, prior to karma and even the cause of karma.
Destiny, really means, that, which is unavoidable,
that which, cannot be changed.
That which is inevitable. That pre-exists everything that happens. And that will exist post all happenings. And what is that? Nothing, but emptiness, Truth. Which was there before the beginning of time and which exists, even after, the time has withdrawn. That alone is destiny, nothing else.
Destiny is not the ‘fruit of action,’ but because we live in our limited prospective, so we take the results of our actions as our destinies.
Your real destiny is the Truth, the ‘real destiny’ is ‘peace.’
The proof of that is unless you get that real unless you get Truth and Peace. You will not relax.
Then you must ask if it is a matter of getting Truth or Peace, then surely they are not available, then why do we say that they are our destiny.
Remember that even when you trying to get the Truth or Peace, it is Truth and Peace that drive you.
What else will drive you towards the Truth? The false? Will the false power you to move towards the Truth. Even the so-called movement or journey towards the Truth cannot happen unless the Truth is there. That is why all journeys, are essentially false. Because the journey of Truth cannot be undertaken without the foundation of Truth. So that which you are moving towards, is actually that, which is moving you. Hence, there is no point in moving.
Your destiny is the great silence, that is where you are and if you do not consciously acknowledge that, that is where you have to reach.
Nothing else is your destiny.
Now do not abuse this word either. You go to the dustbin and you find a 500 Rs note lying there, do not say wow, destiny is smiling on me today. What does, the chance occurrence of a 500 Rs note has to do with destiny. What if it is 500 Euros, then obviously it cannot be called Destiny. You see, its 90 times more attractive then. No, not even then.
Destiny has nothing to do with all these random occurrences that keep happening now and then. You meet a beautiful girl, you say destiny. The girls slap you, you say Destiny. What does Destiny have to do with all these things? You are fat, you say, what to do, this is my Destiny, my genes are like this. I can’t help it, it’s in my genes. What does destiny have to do with your genes?
It is a very limited use of that word. I repeat again. Fruits of action, karma-phal, do not determine your destiny. Your destiny, is a common destiny, shared by, everybody. Its immutable, it is independent of what you do or not do and it is a destiny, that you have already and always lived in. It is not a destiny, that you are out to accomplish. It is not a destiny that will be realized at some point in time. You are already, at the point of your destiny.
Destiny is related to the word destination.
And what does destination means?
The ending and the dissolution.
You are already there.
Yes? So there is no need to go out and realize your destiny.
L: What is the correct word for this. A chai walla becomes the Prime Minister right? So that’s not destiny, as I understand now.
L: Leela. Prabhu ki Leela. Maya. Prabhu ki Maya.
L: So inside there is a poster that says, that “you have reached your destination so now let’s begin”. So, what, can you shed some light on this.
AP: Realizing that you are already there, that’s what you we were talking over a cup of tea there. Realizing that you are already there. Now you are free to act as if everything is lost and the responsibility is upon you to regain. But even as you participate, in that drama, you must know that nothing is lost and nothing is to be gained.
You might be acting like Ram, in a Ram Leela and you might be crying haa Sita, haa Sita; that does not mean that you have really lost your wife. You can’t take that whole thing too seriously, And if you continue, with your sobbing, even in your home, then you will really lose your wife. She will say who is this, Sita. That is what happens, with people who search for peace. In searching, they?
L: Peace gets lost.
AP: Lose the peace. So don’t take all this business of losing and re-gaining too seriously. Indulge in it, because you are born as a human being. You will die of boredom if you do not do anything. Their muscles need something to do. If you don’t do anything, they will shrink, contract, and you will needlessly suffer, so give them something to do. This mind too needs something to play with, otherwise, it will become dull. So give it a problem, it likes problems. It thrives and relishes in problems, so give it something to do, but even when you give all these kids, some toys to play with, you do not yourself forget, that this is just a game, Leela.
When you go to the gym and deliberately, lift weights, do you cure the weights, you have made my life heavy?
AP: you are doing it yourself. It’s a game and if you don’t do it.
L: What else will you do?
AP: What else would you do, in the gym?
L: So our Life is a gym.
