Love

  • “ The Total is greater than the sum of the parts. Two plus two is five. The extra one is the juice of life. It is Grace.”

  • “ Once the beauty of THAT is revealed to you, you fall in love with it. And then it gets maintained.”

  • “Only Love can see.”

  • “If you fail to comprehend me, turn inwards. To understand the Truth, you require a Mind full of Intelligence or a Heart full of Love.”

  • “Facts are material; facts are dualistic; facts are supplied to you by your senses. Facts might take you to the door of the Truth but, facts by themselves are not the Truth. ‘Now’ is not the present, and facts are not the Truth. To say that facts are the truth and ‘now’ is the present, is to say that material is the final reality; and if material is the ultimate Truth, then there can be no Love, Freedom or Joy because none of these are material. There can be no Love in facts. There can be no Freedom in facts.”

  • “Respect that precludes closeness is not Love, and not even Respect”

  • “Dropping of self is the real charity”

  • “To go beyond yourself, come close to yourself”

  • “Free from lovers, you become free to love”

  • “The external social order neither tolerates nor matches the innate order of Love.”

  • “There is a violence that kills. There is a violence that gives birth. Some idiots call this violence as love-making.”

  • “The ego itself is the evil and the devil. The entire game of duality is the evil. To think that one has a choice and a decision is evil. Seated in the ego, whatever you do – care, passion, love, service – all is evil.”

  • “Do not ask,”Do you respect me, love me?” Enquire whether he is capable of respecting and loving. Most people cannot love- anybody, anything.”

  • “If you do not know Love, you will suffer in love.”

  • “Find an absence of love, understanding and peace in your relationships? Its only because your relationships are devoid of a spiritual base.”

  • “Love – Beyond like and dislike.”

  • “Real union is dissolution of the two uniting entities. Love. Attachment maintains identity, separation. It’s the absence of union, of love.”

  • “Sentimentality is not sensitivity. One is enclosure of the past, the other is closeness to the present. One is cruelty, the other is love.”

  • “Aloneness is to see That alone; to see That alone is Love.”

  • “In your rotten ‘normal’ love, you just destroy your loved one.”

  • “Mind is a trader that always makes bad deals. It tries to sell away something that cannot be given away, and it bargains to buy something that cannot be useful. It trades away the essentials- love, freedom, simplicity in exchange for illusions of acceptance, pleasure and security. Hence there is only suffering in each trade, in every action of the mind.”

  • “When Love calls, do not resist. Go; That is where you will find peace. Do not fight that unreasonable urge. Surrender to your glorious defeat.”

  • “What is Love? That which makes you go crazy. What is wisdom? Allowing yourself to go crazy. What is Truth? You will know. Just go crazy.”

  • “No reason ever leads to reasonlessness. Reasonlessness must come first. Then, all reasons become clear. Let unreasonable Love overpower you.”

  • “Awareness is a part of life, meditation is a part of routine, love is a part of relationships. Sure, just as waking up is a part of the dream.”

  • “Aloneness is to see That alone; to see That alone is Love.”

  • “Want to end sorrow? Then stop fearing it. Go close to it, observe it, embrace it, love it, and become one with it. Is sorrow just sorrow?”

  • “An insecure mind, worrying about its own self-interest, cannot love. Love is for those who have stopped worrying about themselves.”

  • “What am I? Fear. Just that? No. Hope, memory, desire and identity as well. All of which, are, again, just fear. And fear can’t love. Tough luck!”

  • “Only Love can see.”

  • “If you have love, you know you have all you ever wanted. If you say you have love, and yet want more, then you don’t know love, and are a liar.”

  • “Love is the two ends of duality feeling good and united about their non-dual common source. Love is the one source that unites the two ends.”

  • “You are the lover you have been missing.”

  • “When one is joyful, there are no aims left. In the deep moment of love too, there are no aims.”

  • “Society is an external order- man relating to man on the basis of a pre-established order. There is no love here; society is based on distrust. Or else there couldn’t be rules. Love is intrinsic and supremely dynamic. Social rules are external and largely frozen. Society is afraid of the force of love. The more there is an internal order, the less there will be the need for the external order. The dead structure of society strangulates love. Social order recognises only patterns, but consciousness and intelligence cannot be pattern-based. The inability to respond dynamically to intelligence, the inability to respond as per the level of consciousness, is the biggest failure of any social order. Society has the same rules for the butcher and the Buddha – one size fits all. It has no eye for understanding, for consciousness, for love.”

  • “If it is in your Heart, it will be in your every breath. What kind of lover dares not to expose his love? When you will get Love, you will also get the spontaneous courage to declare it with a roar.”

  • “Declare your Love. Live your Love; do not hide in shame. Do not lead double lives. It is a blemish on the mind. It rots the self. It is worse than prostitution. You want to sell your soul?”

  • “Either take orders from the One or take orders from many. Those who do not take orders from the One, are condemned to take orders from the many. The one who doesn’t love the One, cannot love the many. One who claims to love many without loving the One knows neither One nor many nor Love.”

  • “Love is a great responsibility. We don’t have the fire to do justice to Love. We don’t have courage to Love. Love is not for cold and dead minds. It is the mind illuminated by the flames of its own annihilation into the Ultimate.”

  • “Entertainment is to enjoyment what happiness is to joy, what attachment is to love, what knowledge is to awareness, what fact is to truth.”

  • “Truth and love are same. The expression is different. Truth will call the false as false, Love will see the True in the false.”

  • “To be in Truth is to see the false as false. To be in Love is to see the True in the false.”

  • “You can’t witness something by staying safely away. To witness is to come so close that you become the object you witness. Witnessing is Love.”

  • “Its easy to see falseness and be in Truth. Still a movement within the known, hence easy. The great leap is away from the known. Faith, Love.”

  • “Love leads to nearness. Nearness leads to witnessing Witnessing leads to understanding. I understand only when I love.”

  • “Your love defines you. You are the quality of the object of your love. Be very careful about what you find yourself loving.”

  • “True love is ruthless. Real compassion often appears cruel. Only that which furthers the ego pleases you- the ego. Dare to love, really?”

  • “Love comes along with Courage.”

  • “To relate in love is to relate free of experience.”

  • “The external social order neither tolerates nor matches the innate order of Love.”

  • “You can’t witness something by staying safely away. To witness is to come close, so close that you become the object you witness. Witnessing is Love.”

  • “If you come to my sessions as one comes to a lover, wonderful!
But if you come here as one goes to Varanasi, then spare me!”

  • “The more your love opens up, the more difficult it will be for you to then let the Truth go.”

  • “The moon offered itself to the Sun, when to the Earth she was bound. This disloyalty illumined the Earth’s nights with love raining around.”

  • “If life is not loveless, would you still talk of liberation?”

  • “Going towards your Beloved, you leave your blood-stained footsteps behind.”

  • “The sign of True Love is that you can forget.

    You can totally forget.

You are so assured that there is no need to think or remember.

Thought is not needed. Verbalization is not needed. You are knowing without thinking, and that is Real knowing — when you know without thinking, when you know without effort, without knowledge, without memories.

That is how God is known.”

  • “Fulfillment is when you are not thinking about fulfillment.

Real knowing is when you are not thinking in terms of knowledge.

Love is when you forget all about love.

Fearlessness is when you are not thinking that you are fearless.

If you are thinking that you are fearless, you are just using thought as a defense mechanism.

Whatever is Real is known by its absence in the psychic world.

If it does not come in thoughts then it is Real. If the mind cannot imagine it, hold it, touch it, conceptualize it, then it is Real.”

  • “Keep the secret.Don’t spill the beans. That’s the essence of Spirituality.Don’t break the news.Like lovers talk in hushed tones. One does not talk loudly to God.Somebody may hear.”

  • “Your lover is the one, must be the one, who helps you reach your heart.”

  • “When you are free of everything; when you are free of the world, free of yourself – you are wedded to Freedom.

And to be wedded to Freedom is to have God as your spouse.

God is the only rightful partner.

    Peace is the only lover.

    Truth is the only attraction.

Nobody wants anything else; nobody has ever wanted anything else.”

  • “If you have love, and you still need more, then you don’t have love and you won’t get anything more.”

  • “Acknowledge, when love comes to over-power you; and acknowledge, when evil dominates you.”

  • “Love makes you uneasy. Live with that.Lack of love also makes you uneasy. Live with that.Live with whatever there is! Don’t pretend that it is not!”

  • “Please get this image off your mind – “the pleasant Truth”.

Truth cannot be pleasant to that which we are.

Truth can be pleasant only to the Truth.

Only the Truthful can love the Truth.

Truth falls in love only with Itself.”

  • “You will love Shiva when you will gain something of Shiva. You will love Shiva when you will be Shiva.Otherwise, you cannot love Him.”

  • “L1: Why does the earthly father hate the Real Father?

AP: Because the Real Father is the Real one. In front of the Real Father, the earthly one stands no chance. He has been saying: “My son, my son, my son,” for so long. And when the Real one comes, whose son? Son, whose son?

He is the Father of all fathers. In fact, this is a very common observation — the earthly father will hate the Real father; the earthly lover will hate the Real Beloved. Wives are terribly angry when husbands go to Krishna, very angry, just as the spurious one is angry at the Real one.

In fact, that is one way to test the love of the wife. If the wife spurs you on, supports you when you are moving towards the Truth, then you should know that she loves you, but if you are moving towards the Truth and the wife becomes jealous and possessive, then you should know that she already knows that she is fake and false.”

  • “The false lover tries to bring you to himself, and misses both Truth and Love.

The Real lover forgets about himself, and tries to take you to the Truth, and he gets both Truth and Love.”

  • “The world of Truth is a strange world. Here, you get so much if you are prepared to drop; here, you gain everything when you surrender.

When the wife surrenders the husband, she gets a lover.”

  • “If you really love somebody, do not make yourself important for that person.

    Let the Truth be important.

That is the action of Love.”

  • “When you are with the Lover, then the world appears itself to be lovable.”

  • “When God is the Lover, to be Kissed is to be Killed.”

  • “A person deserves to be your lover only if the person is saying that I am not going to become your goal. I am not going to become your objective. I will only become a fellow traveller, a means, a bridge. If you come to me then I will take you beyond me. I will not make you stay with me. I will not possess you. I will not make you stop at me. Instead, I will guide you beyond me. That is how the wise man decides on his lover, if it all it can be called a decision. Because in such matters, what happens is so spontaneous that it cannot really be called a decision.”

  • “Please understand this carefully once again. If you come across something or somebody that attracts you to itself, then that thing is in fact dangerous for you, because it will completely envelope you, encircle you, and in that way enslave you. It will say you can move no further, your journey ends here, there at me. You are my husband now and go no further. You are my son, look no further. The real lover will say: because I love you, I’ll help you go Beyond. Maybe we will travel together to the Beyond.”

  • “The lover does not say: “You are travelling at a particular speed, I’ll enable you to move faster”. The lover says: “No more movement. I blocked the road now. Go no beyond. And if you go beyond me then I will call it immoral. I will say that you have breached the code of loyalty. For that is what my definition of love”, the lover would say. The deluded lover would say that my definition of love is that you have to be devoted, dedicated and loyal to ‘me’.
The Real lover would say: “Forget me! Do not remember me. Because if you remember me, then you are not remembering the Truth. Forget me so that you may remember the Truth. It is not me who matters, something else matters.”

  • “We never look at our lovers that way; in fact, it would be so unromantic, right, if the lover looks like a Guru, acts like a Guru, even remotely resembles a Guru?
That would be disqualification enough for you to reject him or her.”
The lover says,‘You should look hot and sensual baby! What is all this Guru business? Not in front of me, maybe in front of your audiences. Don’t try this act in our intimacy, it is just supposed to be a public show. All that preaching and Satsang. What is that? That is just a performance, right! A public performance, for consumption of gullible fools who are prepared to be taken in. But here, our relationship, this is real, this is intimate, this is personal between you and me and here we have to talk of the sweet and nice things of life. Not other worldly and boring stuff like Truth and Freedom. Let’s talk of perfumes, let’s talk of fairies, let’s talk of various pleasures that our bodies can give us. What is this nonsense about divinity and immortality! What is this thing called the ultimate? Let me show you the ultimate! And I promise you that all your desires will be extinguished.’

If the lover has nothing to do with the Truth, your lover can have nothing to do with you either. If your lover could not be devoted to the One, to the Father, are you a fool to think that he or she can be devoted to you? Who are you? What is your worth? The one who has supreme worth, your so called lover, could not be loyal even to Him. How is this fellow going to be loyal to you?

  • “The Guru is the lover, the lover is the Guru, and there can be no distinction between the two.
    This challenges our images.
The lover is imagined to be active, attractive.
A Guru is imagined to be staid, passive, wise, but hardly attractive in the worldly sense, that is.
No, these two definitions must converge, and they can converge only if both of them dissolve.”

  • “When you have no ammunition with which to face life, then you have a lot of love with which to greet life.”

  • “Clarity is like going to life like a lover – naked!
    Not like a warrior.
    Not like a fighter.
    Not armored.
    But, naked!
    Like a lover.”

  • “If you are not afraid then you can just present yourself empty handed, naked, without preparation, without defenses, without armors, without weapons and clothing.
    Here I am, naked!
    Unprepared.
Not the warrior, but the lover.”

  • “When you can see your entire universe in the parted lips of the beloved, it is Atman.”

  • “In true Love, you forget the lover.”

  • “Where there is dependency, there would only be violence, not Love.”

  • “Love is not just an external action.
When Truth shines within, Love is its radiation.”

  • “Love is not a ‘want’ and Love is not an obligation.
You don’t ‘want’ to Love somebody and you don’t ‘have’ to love somebody.
Love is not at all related to the world around you.
Love is first and foremost your own state of being. Love is your own inner richness. Love is entirely an internal phenomena which flows up with respect to the world as well. But primarily it has not much to do with the world, it has to do with your own consciousness.
‘Am I connected to myself?’, that connection, that closeness with yourself is Love.”

  • “When your internal health is good, then you radiate Love. When the being is healthy and strong, it radiates Love.”

  • “Forget that Love has to do anything with anybody outside. Please forget that. Forget about loving somebody.
Turn inwards, look within, cure yourself and then you don’t have to worry about Love. Even without knowing, you will become loving. You won’t even know that this is Love, because as per our standard definitions of Love, Love is something totally different. So even without knowing, you would have already become Love. And in strange ways you would be reaching out to others. That’s the mysticism of Love.
You won’t even know how you are benefiting the other. Of course, that would not be as per the general imagination, the general norms. You won’t be talking sweet necessarily. And your behavior towards everybody will not be same because Love is not something that can be typecast. The same Sun, when it shines upon the sand, it dries the sand and when it shines upon the ice, it melts ice. In one case, the water has been removed and in the other case, water has appeared. So your behavior towards everybody will be different. The same Sun has different effects on different people. You cannot just declare a particular type of behavior to be loving behavior. And you don’t have to bother whether my behavior is loving or not.
My inner health is so good that whatever would be happening would be good. I am so full that I can only give. I do not intend to harm anybody because I clearly see that ultimate all around, so whom to harm.”

  • “Love is not a relationship with the other. Love is not a behavior displayed to others. Love is your internal fullness. Love is the submergence of the ego in its source. That closeness is called Love. And when that is misplaced, when that is there, then everything is alright. In Love, you may even kill. Love is sheer wisdom. And Love demands that one does kill some time. Love is not about giving each other gifts. “You are my darling” — that is not Love. And let those special days come, anniversaries and the birthdays and the valentine days and all the kuchikoo. That is not Love.”

  • “Love is the ultimate uncertainty.”

  • “To be in love with the Truth is to forget everything else, because the Truth is one and all encompassing. If you have fallen in love with the Truth, how can you remember anything else? Because there is nothing else to remember. To fall in love with Truth, is to fall in love with wholeness. There is nothing else left.”

  • “Ask for that One, ask for nothing else. And if that One is asked for, really asked for, you get it. It is such a magical thing. You keep asking for petty stuff, do you ever get it? You have asked since years, since decades, since centuries for all small and petty things. Have you ever been able to get it? You have asked for the love of man, you have asked for reputation, you have asked for satisfaction, have you ever been able to get it? Love of men have kept you thirsty, reputation has always proved insufficient, and money has never been enough. Now for once, try something else. Leave all those little desires and ask for the Truth itself. Ask for the One. You will say, “Sir, when our little desires are never granted, how this immense desire will be granted?” But I am assuring you, this magic happens.”

  • “Detachment means that the mind knows it’s Real home, so it does not have to beg for other homes.Detachment means that the mind knows it’s Real lover, so it does not have to look for love here and there.
Detachment means that the mind is dependent only on One, so it is not dependent on the thousands.
    That is detachment.”

  • “Unconditional love is a fierce commitment to reject all but the One.”

  • “Love is your own state of mind, the other does not have much to do with Love.
That’s another misconception, that for Love, there has to be the presence of an other, not needed.
Love is essentially between the mind and the Source, and because the Source is the Source of the mind itself, so again it is not something between two entities, not between two separate entities.”

  • “Something(a state of mind) which will remain unaffected by whatever is happening on the outside, in the world. There is a state of the mind which remains continuously untouched by whatever is happening outside, this is called unconditional.
It doesn’t matter what is happening here, there, with that person, in the future, in the past, today, tomorrow. I have a particular state of mind that does not change and that is called the unconditional state. You may call it Love, you may not call it Love, that doesn’t matter, this unconditionality itself is the Love. That state of mind which remains untouched by all the movements in time and space is unconditional, and that alone is Love.”

  • “That state of mind which remains untouched by all the movements in time and space is unconditional, and that alone is Love.”

  • “A mind that is in close contact, in intimacy with its own Source, is a loving mind, and that is why it is unconditional. Because when the mind is in contact with its own Source, then whatever is happening on the periphery, all the conditions that are continuously changing on the periphery, they do not affect the mind, and hence it is called unconditional love.”

  • “Come what may – that is unconditional Love.”

  • “You will know how to go back, if you Love only One. If you Love many, then you will be distracted towards many. You will know how to go back if you are listening only to One, this is called Attention or Dhyan. But if you are listening to too many voices and noises, then obviously you will not know where to go.”

  • “Words don’t breathe, words don’t love. Keep saying, “Love, Love, Love…,” one thousand times, you will come no closer to loving. Keep parroting, “Truth, Truth, Truth, Truth,” you will still be sitting in your lies.”

No two fragments can be alike.

    Love will never be possible.”

  • “Nothing in the Universe is as loveless as man.
Nothing in the Universe is as distrustful as man.”

The mind cries out: I want to embrace my lover.
    Let it be embraced.
    Let it be submerged.”

  • “The Mind is like a lover crying out for union with the Lover.”

  • “Enemies need mediators. Lovers don’t need mediators.
When the mind wants to reach the source, then it is about two lovers. What will the mediator do?

A high-quality mind is a surrendered mind, one at peace with itself.”

  • “The man who could not belong to God, obviously cannot belong to you either. If your man or woman has no Love for God and Truth, you are an idiot to expect that he or she can have love for you.”

  • “Do not ask him, ‘do you love me?’
See if he is capable of Love.
The Loving one would not be selective in his love. He would be loving towards the river, the dog, the mountains, the moon.

If he can butcher animals, he would butcher you too in the name of making love.”

  • Wise is the man, who, even by looking at half the moon, knows that the moon is One; One, Total, brilliant. Wise is the man, who, while living in the world, knows that there are things that are not visible, but are there, that there is more to living, than meets the eye. Only a fine arc might be visible, but the moon is a complete circle.

If there is nothing in your life, except that, which meets the eye, except that, which the mind can think of, then your life is very poor. And that is what is called, ‘materialism’. ‘Materialism’ is poverty itself. No materialist can ever be rich. There are only two kinds of materialists – poor and absolutely poor, because that which gives richness to life, is not material at all.

When you find that there is nothing in your life, which is inexplicable, which is so preposterous that you cannot even ‘think’ of it, let alone ‘speak’ of it, then you are living a very loveless life. You simply have no touch of ‘Love’, because love does not come to those people who live and believe only in the material.

  • “Tragedy of the knowledge dependent man:

He has no central internal anchor; he does not have an untouched, secure point to live by.

It is a mind dependent on knowledge.

So some external news came and because this man was probably defining himself with respect to the external, a change in the external caused tremors in the internal.

You know that the one you are relying on is going to deceive you. Once again he is going to deceive you. You know you are going to end up disappointed yet again. But you end up knocking on the same door. You end up walking down the same road. This is not Faith. This is not Love. This is pure desperate dependency.”

  • “To know hearing as hearing, is listening. To know Seeing, as seeing, is seeing. If you can know that, then you won’t have any hopes left from what you have ‘heard’ just now. And you will have to forget these words, and if you can forget these words, that is the beginning of remembrance.”

  • “Joy, freedom, love, these are not for stupid and mediocre people. These are for the brilliant one who is really shining within himself, free and independent; the intelligent one. These are for him.”

  • “Enquiring about something is an act of great love. So, you are not well, I am enquiring. Behind the enquiry, lies love. I want to know, who you are, not because I have ill intentions. But because I sense a certain beauty, that is enquiry. Enquiry is closeness. But when you will enquire then it is possible that the other person may become aggressive. You are enquiring just because you want to know. Because ‘to know’ is so beautiful. But the other person may think that you are enquiring in order to expose or offend. You must be prepared to take that risk. That is the price you must pay for living honestly.”

Yes, the student comes to learn a lot, but learning cannot be the purpose, it cannot be the objective and the driver. If the student goes to the teacher, the central reason is love. The central reason is not, one’s acquisitiveness for knowledge. And if you are going to a teacher in order to get something, you will probably get what you are going to get, but rest assured, very soon you will find yourself saturated and ready to leave the teacher.”
