Ego likes to conclude too soon

The ego likes to settle matters too soon, the ego likes to conclude too soon. Wherever there is a conclusion, wherever there is a settlement, wherever there is an ending that thought can grasp, it is a false ending, it is a false realization. I have no interest in talking about what true realization is like. True realization is anywhere not a subject matter of this course. We should rather warn of that which is false.

The ego can never be restful with loose ends, with uncertainty, with ambiguity. With things that are not beginning and not ending, with matters that seem absurd in a sequence of time, with issues that apparently do not have a cause, with actions that apparently do not result in anything, the ego will be restless with these. So, it will try to close matters, it will try to conclude, it will try to assert.

The assertion cannot be, “I do not know.” Because that is a very unstable assertion. If you do not know then responsibility upon you is to know. Sooner than later, after passing through a series of ‘I don’t know’, the ego would quickly like to come to…

The mind is not your own

gen 1

Acharya Prashant: Yes, the topic is the infectiousness of boredom. Not only is boredom infectious, anything and everything that the mind experiences is contagious, infectious.

You experienced it with respect to one particular way of the mind, one particular move of the mind right now. That does not mean that only boredom is contagious, that rather means that right now there is a particular environment in which you could observe this particular infectiousness that affects the mind. It is happening at every moment.

Mind you, it has happened 300 times with you since this morning. But, you couldn’t notice it in the previous 299 occasions. So, the question to be asked is not whether boredom is infectious. Mind itself is an infection and acquisition, an import.

Knowledge is always stale

You stand in front of the mirror, who looks at the image? You! And who is there in the image? You!

You project and you look. The world is like this. Getting it? That is why, the ones who realize, I have repeatedly said that knowledge is always stale. There can be no real newness in knowledge. You can never really have knowledge of that, which is outside your most fundamental conditioning. You can never read a CD that you have not been programmed to read. Now the contents of the CD might vary. Understand this.

But your hardware is programmed to read only particular type of CDs. That CD can have any kind of content. Now, the real new is not the knowledge. The real new is something else. The real new is a sense of freshness within, not dependent on any kind of mental activity. The ones who depend on knowledge end up getting bored. So, they keep giving themselves more and more knowledge based inputs. And when I am saying ‘knowledge’, I mean the aggregate of all sensory inputs.

So, to get rid of the boredom, they keep feeding themselves more and more sensory inputs and yet the boredom never goes away. The reason is simple. Whatever you are feeding to yourself, you have fed it a thousand times earlier. So, it cannot remove your boredom.

You have seen the movie a thousand times earlier. the name of the movie might have changed. Apparently, the story line has also changed. But, it’s the same thing -same attraction, same violence, same suspense, same murder, same killing. Alright! Different names of the characters. Alright! Different faces of the characters. But the fundamentals are the same, the hard-wiring is the same. So, even if you watch a fresh movie, a so called fresh movie, you still emerge from the theater, long faced and bored. There is no freshness in it. The same old drama, attraction, repulsion, coming close, going away, anxiety, happiness, sadness, relief, responsibilities, obligations, pressure, revolt; Same things!

Because my system is the same!

You see, if you paint your face in a thousand ways, and go and look at yourself in the mirror. But will you ever be able to deceive yourself that the man you are looking at, is you? After all, you are projecting it, so, how can it be new? Getting it?

The more you search, the more you will not find

BFB1

As long as a scholar makes a search or an investigation, so long that is indeed not met with, since it is not at all graspable.

Hemlekha

~THE ESSENCE OF TRIPURA RAHASYA (verse 64)

Acharya Prashant: So, keep searching and you will not find it. Because that, which is to be found, is found only in stillness. The more you search, the more you ensure that you will not find it. Then does that mean that we should not search for it? No! You must search for it. Why?

Now, get this point very-very clearly! Why should you search for it?

Because searching is your habit!

You are anyway searching for a thousand things. Get this very clearly. Why must self-inquiry be done? Why must searching take place? Because you are curious about a thousand things. Had you not been curious at all, self-enquiry would not have been needed. But, you are curious. You want to know. Your senses are looking for knowledge all the time. Because you cannot do without knowledge, hence it is advised that why don’t you go to the root of knowledge and inquire into the absolute. Continue reading

How to get rid of addictions?

Slide2

Question: How to get rid of addictions like smoking, overeating?

Acharya Prashant: Do you overeat when you are sleeping? Do you feel an urge to smoke when you are sleeping? Do you feel an urge to smoke, even when you are deep in relaxation? When do you feel like smoking?

Listener: I have been drinking and it started when I was feeling depressed. But later on, drinking became a habit. Then you drink because you are happy, you drink because you are sad, you drink because nothing is happening, out of boredom.

AP: Yes, but I still want to go into that.

Do you still drink when you are sleeping? Do you drink in your deep moment of contentment? You said, you drink when you are happy, you drink when you are sad. Don’t you see, both of these are moments of excitement? Do you feel like smoking, when you are utterly peaceful? Does that happen? Continue reading

Work comes later, the worker comes first

Without a deep internal motive, if you still continue to work as you are working, then you must know that there is immersion.

Even when you know that you will not be paid a single paisa, still you continue to work with immersion, then you know that you are not tempted.

Not being instructed about ‘how to work’ and ‘how to display immersion’, if you are still immersed, then it is immersion.

Work comes later, the worker comes first.

The worker comes later, the Heart comes first.

So let work come from your Heart.

That is engagement.

Real Immersion

You don’t need to pretend that you are very busy with your work.

If your Heart is at the right place, right work will naturally flow from it.

You won’t then do it to display it to somebody. It would not then be a means of earning something. Now work is an expression of your Heart. And you do not bother about how it appears to others. You know what you are doing. You are not doing it for anybody else. You are doing it for yourself. It is your own personal thing. And personal in the right sense of the word. Not in the divided sense. Now you are not doing it to please your boss. Now it is your own work, you have ownership.

You don’t even have to really report. Because you are your own authority now. You cannot sleep properly if you know that you haven’t done the due. Why do you even need to go and tell somebody else? Somebody else might be easily deceived. And that’s what you do when you report to somebody else. It is very easy to deceive him because you are the one who is reporting, you can misrepresent.

But when you are doing it from your Heart, then your Heart is the authority.

And it cannot be deceived.

That is real work.

That is real immersion.
