What is Bharat?

So, if you’ll ask me, “What is Bharat?”

I will wait for you to look at the snow capped Himalayas. And then, when your eyes would be shining with wonderment, then I will say, “That is Bharat!”

Or when you would be reading The Upanishads, and your mind would suddenly be getting lighter and your face would have a sudden radiance and you would have felt for yourself deeply in your heart what it meant to say, ‘Poornamidah; poornamidam’.

Then I will say, “That! That is Bharat.”

You will never own up your mistakes

You will never own up your mistakes.

You will be brought to a point where you will have no option but to see that you have been an idiot.

You will be left option-less.

Till the time you have an option, you will exercise it.

Till the time you have an option, you will only choose the ego because only the ego has options.

What else will you choose?

Willingly, it is never going to happen.

Never, ever!

And those for whom it is happening willingly, it is not really happening.

If it is happening willingly for you, then it is not really happening.

Then it means that it is a part of your internal conspiracy.

The Grace that melts and enslaves

On that day when you looked at me,

you enslaved me,

In Grace entered me,

and out of Love

melted my mind.

~ Lalleshwari ~

Acharya Prashant: “On that day when you looked at me, you enslaved me, In Grace entered me, and out of Love melted my mind.”

I repeat, “Oh Shiva! On that day when you looked at me, you enslaved me, In Grace entered me, and out of Love melted my mind.” Continue reading

You are wonderful, beautiful, awesome, simply as you are

Speaker: Virah wo aag hai jise parmaatma swayam fuunkta hai. Parmaatmaa ke liye hai, aur use phuunkta bhee wahi hai. (Longing is the fire which is stoked by God Himeslf. It is for God, and is stoked by God.) Continue reading

What really is evil?

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत ।
अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम् ||

Bhagwad Gita(Chapter – 4, Verse – 7)

Whenever there is a decay of religion and growth of injustice; to protect the virtuous, to destroy the wicked, I manifest Myself, through the ages.

Question: Sir, it is said in the Bhagwad Gita that “Whenever there is rise in evil the Lord will come”. But Sir, good and evil both are defined by ego. Then what is this evil that the Lord will come to destroy?

Speaker: There are two kinds of evil just as we are two. We are two, we operate from two centres, and similarly there are two evils and two kinds of virtues as well. There is one evil that the ego labels as evil. It is the counterpart of virtue. There is one bad that the ego calls as bad, it is the shadow of good, it is the dual companion of good. So you can comfortably limit yourself to the definition provided by the ego that “there is the good and the evil and the both are as per my choice, my knowledge, my universe of which I am the centre”. Or you have the option to move to a more sublime understanding of evil which is, that evil is not what ego decides to be evil but the evil is whatever the ego decides. Continue reading

In victory and in defeat, you are always a winner

Question : Sir, is truth necessarily cruel and dangerous? Whenever I listen to you, I feel fear of losing something. Why is it so?

Speaker : Who is losing something? If you unnecessarily identify yourself with somebody who has possessions, only then you feel that you are losing something. We will understand a few things.

First, there is no need to take any of your possessions seriously. Because what is really yours can never be taken away. You will be wasting your energy by being serious about it. See, you are feeling serious about something, and you are afraid that you might lose it. Right? You are saying, “Whenever I listen to you, I fear that I will lose something.” If there is the fear that you might lose something, then this fear is the proof enough that, ‘that’ thing is external. It is not really yours. Continue reading

What is heaven and what is hell?

Swarg iti cha satsansargah swargah

Narak iti cha asat sansaar vishay jansansarga eva narakah

– Niralamba Upanishad

{Heaven is the association with the holy.
Association with the worldly folk who are unholy, alone is hell.
}

Acharya Prashant: ‘Heaven’ and ‘hell’ are obviously not geographies.

What is it that you call as ‘holy’? That which is untainted, uncorrupted. And obviously you call that as ‘holy’ because there is something within you which gives you that definition. There is something within you which demands cleanliness, there is something within you which does not like dirt, corruption and conditioning.

So what you call as ‘holy’ is demanded by something which is of the same ‘holy’ nature and is already present in you. Had you not been holy at all, you could not have demanded the ‘holy’. You would have been satisfied with all the dirt and filth that comes along in life. But we dislike all that. It becomes a load on the mind. We do not like it, we remain dissatisfied. We want something clean, pristine, like this sheet of snow all around. Continue reading
