His suffering will be your suffering

What is right for one, cannot be right for the other. The method that suits one, cannot suit the other.

And when you see better, then you know on your own, the step to take, the direction to move.

The moment you cause suffering, it is to yourself that the suffering has been caused.

If you do not know what is not right for him, surely, firstly you do not know what is right for you. His suffering will be your suffering.

Acharya Prashant on Jesus Christ: Give to each what they deserve – that alone is suitable for them

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs,

neither cast ye your pearls before swine,

lest they trample them under their feet,

and turn again and rend you.

Matthew 7:6

Acharya Prashant: Your path, cannot be somebody else’s path.  No, general method, nothing general at all, can ever be suitable to you. You are what you are because you are evolved, programmed, brought up and conditioned in the way that you are. Each of us, is located at a different point in existence. This point is a point, away, from our home, the center. And because the points are different, so our actions will also be different.

The right action, must necessarily, be different for different persons.

What is right for one, cannot be right for the other.

The method that suits one, cannot suit the other.

To a dog, only that which is suitable to a dog is right and to a swine, only that which is suitable to a swine is right. Hence, the right action cannot be a set of principles. Hence, the whole premise of morality, is hollow. Morality deals with prescriptions, with commandments, do this, do that.

What Jesus is saying is – what is right for you, depends on, what you take yourself to be.  Your way towards home, depends on, how badly you have lost yourself. Depends on, where you think you are.

There can be no, one general way or one general right action. But we have a tendency out of morality to label, a few things as right, a few things as wrong. A few paths as profound, a few other ways, as profane. Now if you suggest your so-called profound paths, to a dog, you would only be doing injustice to the dog. To a dog, only a dog’s way is appropriate. To you, only that is appropriate, which is for you and that can arise only from the depths of your awareness. Hence, the right teacher can never prescribe or command.

He can never tell you, what to do.  He will never be a provider or instructor of action.  Instead, he will be an illuminator.  He will help remove, the obstacles in front of a light, so that you can see better.

And when you see better, then you know on your own, the step to take, the direction to move.

Who is Jesus?

There is a certain environment in which every prophet speaks. His words have to be understood keeping that environment in mind.

‘Garden of Eden’ is the state of bliss that one enjoys as long as one keeps making the right choice.

Even as you are feeling delighted, blissful, you do not know that something else too is at work.

In your moments of bliss in the garden, don’t totally be off guard. Always remain close to God even if it appears that everything is settled.

If Adam and Eve were incorruptible, they would be JesusJesus is that man who is not quite a man because he is left with no choices. Adam and Eve still have choices, they can go this way or they can go that way. Jesus goes only one way, towards his father. Jesus, one cannot say is a man. Jesus, one cannot say is not a man either. Jesus is the highest potentiality of Adam and Eve.

Acharya Prashant on Jesus Christ: The highest potentiality of Adam and Eve is Christ

Acharya Prashant: Harshal has asked:

“Serpent denotes Kundalini(Helical) awakening in various cultures. In Hindu culture, it signifies the opening of the crown chakra. The serpent here denotes the evil or something else?”

Harshal the serpent here in a serpent. Why are you relating it with something else? You know a serpent? Serpent, Hisssss… that kind of serpent. Firstly, understand what the serpent is all about. Your concern must be to understand, not to relate it with something else. Whenever you relate something new to something old, then the new loses its newness. Now you have defined the new in terms of the old, and the new feels helpless. The new had come to bring something new to you, and you’ve co-opted the new. You defined the new as a function of the old. The new is now destroyed. It holds no lesson for you now.

You look at a man and you comprehend his actions in terms of what you have so far seen in your life, and you will succeed, and you have lost it.

Are you getting it?

Jesus says:

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its flavor, how can it be made salty again? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by man.”

Alok Ji is asking:

Acharya Ji, why does Jesus say that you are the salt of the earth? What is the meaning of this statement?

It means you are the core of the material. You are the spirit of the material. Salt of the earth. Earth denotes the material. Salt denotes the essence of the material, that which is obtained when the material is distilled, filtered. From immense quantities of material, very subtle, very little bit of salt, essence emerges that is what Jesus means when he says you are the salt of the earth. In his own way, indirectly in the language of the commoners, he is saying – you are not material, you are the spirit. You are not the body, you are the Atman. The ‘earth’ would denote the ‘body’, ‘salt’ would represent the ‘spirit.’

In real relationship you are free to respond

Life is flexible. A real relationship is very liquid. It’s free to take all forms. It does not bind you. That’s the test of a real loving relationship. You are free to respond. You are not confined and hesitant. You do not say that if I say this to Papa then Papa will get very angry, so whenever Papa says something I must respond in one particular way. If that is the relationship then you please be cautious. There is something wrong somewhere.

In a real relationship, you can sometimes hug Papa and if needed even hit Papa. It’s alright. Just sometimes, not always. Have you not seen little kids do that? Have you not done that yourself? That happens in love. In military you cannot do that. But is your house a military cantonment where you cannot disobey your seniors?

In love you’re free to disobey, and you’re free to obey. You obey in your freedom, you don’t obey in fear. You obey because you love them. And because you love them you also have the license to disobey. There need not be one ready-made response. I am repeating that again and again.

Someday you wake up and you’re feeling delightful, you can just go and embrace Mumma, “What a brilliant morning this is.” And on another day you wake up and you’re feeling absolutely down, you may not say anything. You may walk past your sister, mother, father, and may not say anything. It’s alright. Why should there be a routine. Why should there be a pattern?

But this requires freedom. This requires love. This requires real closeness. It’s a man to man thing, an individual to individual contact, in which great space are available to both parties. Your views and there, my views are there, and everything can be accommodated. I look at everything in the light of intelligence. It’s not martial law. There is no law at all.

Question: What should be the place of our parent’s views in our decision making?

Acharya Prashant: Who will decide the importance given to anybody’s views? Parents views or anybody’s views? Who will decide that? You will decide that. Even if I give you some answer right now, who will decide how much importance to give to my answer?

I am giving you lot of answers. Who will decide how important these answers are? You will decide, right?

Already, so much has been told to you by families, society, your normal education, moral science, convention and tradition. You already know that parent’s views are important. And this knowledge is coming to you from outside. When you were small, since you were small, you are being fed this knowledge. Now you want me to give you some knowledge, and this knowledge you’ll integrate with your previous beliefs and come to some kind of conclusion.

Where do right decisions come from?

Acharya Prashant: Please see, there appears a very difficult task in front of us.

One approach is, the task is so difficult that I leave it to be handled by time. The task is so difficult that, being with what I am today, with my energy, my resources, my understanding, my knowledge, I am not equipped to handle this task. So, what do I do? I don’t look at the task. I leave it to some imaginary date in the future. Or to some well-planned date. Doesn’t matter. Both are same.

The other is, I know that there is urgency in the situation, I know that the right action needs to be done, but the fruits of the right action are not in my hands. I do not know when the whole thing will bear fruits, will materialize. But at least the action is happening right now. And if the action takes time, so be it. And when I say the action takes time, I mean the appearance of the fruits takes time. And the fruits obviously come only when they have to come. You do not know when your actions will bear fruit. And it is not wisdom, to keep thinking of the fruits. Continue reading
